Program Overview
Acts of implicit and explicit racism have been reported at our medical institutions for years. We recognize the historical challenges faced by race and ethnic populations, and we encourage students to meet the needs of groups that remain underrepresented and undervalued in public health. This course seeks to answer fundamental questions about racial injustices in medicine. Centering on access to care, clinical practice, and research studies, we will assess the ways current healthcare practices in the United States— have portrayed different population groups and created implicit biases. The course addresses issues of race and ethnic stratifications and the implications of overt racism by analyzing shifts in practice in the United States.
