Angelica Abreu has a bachelor’s in Public Health and a Minor in Infection Control from the University of South Florida, and she is pursuing a second bachelor in Biomedical Science. She is planning to complete a master’s program before applying to medical school. Angelica dedicates her time to school, AMSA, Medical Assistant job, free clinic volunteering, and research. She has been part of AMSA for three years and has attended the Medical School Forum every year. Last year she had the opportunity to table during MSF representing Atlantis, Pre-Med Fellowship Programs Abroad. In her free time, Angelica loves to paint both traditionally and digitally. She created a YouTube channel to develop her art style.
 

BriʼAna Gardiner

Bri'Ana Gardiner is a Masters student at Tulane School of Medicine – studying Anatomy. Bri'Ana Gardiner will be pursuing medical school after the completion of the MS degree in 2021. Bri'Ana works with different organizations that focus on initiatives serving the underserved, underrepresented, and disadvantaged communities. She became involved with AMSA when she began her non-traditional pre-med journey in 2018 by participating in the Pre-Med Scholars program. During the program, she found she wanted to have a more active role in the organization and volunteered to be one of the course directors for the next Scholars cohort. Currently, she is the AMSA PreMed Scholars Course Director for the second year and one of the voting coordinators for the Med Out The Vote initiative.

Program Overview

Calling all Premedical Scholars … this is the program that will give you a leg up once in med school. Participants will take their first steps toward becoming a transformative physician, thinking beyond overt symptoms and moving into the social mission and public health context of medicine. This program addresses issues at the forefront of medicine today, and provides the opportunity to listen and talk with acclaimed healthcare experts, network with fellow premeds around the world, and complete a meaningful community project.

End Date: April 29, 2021
Meeting Time: 7:00 - 9:00 PM ET, twice a month on Thursdays

Why will I LOVE this Program?

The Premed Scholars Program brings together future health care professionals from across the country, who are passionate about activism, social justice and creating a space for medical students and physicians in advocacy. Student will partake and implement an advocacy-related community project, while learning and developing skills and knowledge necessary to build their careers as an effective physician-advocate.
