Angela Lee is a rising M4 at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Prior to attending medical school, Angela went to Yale University where she spent her freshman summer working at a children’s AIDS hospice in Uganda. She then spent the following summer working on a public health sanitation workshop in Ghana. Because of these two experiences, she ultimately pursued and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in medical anthropology, which specifically examines the intersection of culture, medicine, and public health. After graduating from college, she received an amazing opportunity to work in a molecular biology laboratory in one of the largest hospitals in Ecuador. She spent her two years there developing and implementing a cost-effective cervical cancer screening protocol for the patients. Her work with the obstetricians, gynecologists and pathologists there inspired her to pursue a career in medicine, as she was amazed at their collective ability to help patients on both an individual and population level. She continues to pursue her interest in global health during medical school by researching and publishing work on global oncology and Zika. She also worked at a pediatric medical oncology ward in Nepal during her third year of medical school, and she recently worked at the Traveler’s Health Division at the CDC, where she conducted extensive research on various countries’ responses to the coronavirus pandemic. The culmination of these experiences is what has shaped and continues to shape her passion and interest in global health. She is excited to teach others about the pertinent issues that shape global health by serving as one of the AMSA course directors for the upcoming Global Health Scholars Course. During her spare time, Angela loves to cook Korean food, perform CrossFit exercises, and traveling to different parts of the world. She is also a huge MCU fan, and she loves to keep up with the latest pop culture movie news.

Kristina is a rising M3 at New York Medical College. Prior to attending medical school, she graduated magna cum laude from The George Washington University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Exercise Science. During undergrad she developed an interest in public health through her coursework and time working as an Emergency Department Tech in Washington, DC treating a diverse patient population. This interest lead her to pursuing the Global and Population Health concentration at NYMC and the AMSA Global Health Scholars Program. Kristina hopes to continue to explore different aspects of global health, foster conversations about global health issues, and encourage students to apply their knowledge outside of the classroom to a population of a larger scale as a course director for the 2020-2021 Global Health Scholars Program. She hopes to build upon this experience and pursue an MPH after residency. In her free time, she enjoys baking, spin classes, and a good podcast.

Nicole Falls

Course Director

View Bio
Nicole Falls is a rising senior at Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University. She is pursuing a degree in Biochemistry, with a Minor in Spanish Language Studies. She is also the President of the Tempe Chapter of AMSA, and has also previously served as Vice President! After completing global missions and several cultural competency courses in her undergraduate education, she registered for the Global Health Scholars Program in hopes of learning more about different facets and perspectives within global health. She has always felt a calling to pursue global health, and serving on missions validated those feelings and pushed her further towards that goal. Nicole believes the Global Health Scholars Program contributed new insights into a field she hopes to pursue in the future. She plans to continue her education at a combined MD/MPH program in an effort to merge her passions for medicine and public health issues. As a director of the GHSP, she hopes to bring awareness to current issues in Global Health and provide resources to those who want to get involved in the world of global medicine. Along with her co-directors, she wishes to create a broader community of advocates for global health, using the course topics as a platform to continue educating others on these issues. In her free time, she loves to go hiking, do yoga, and travel whenever there is time!

Program Overview

Global health addresses the key tenets of health care on a global scale. Complex interdependent relationships of health systems that transcend national boundaries are of special interest in sustaining global health initiatives within and between countries. Continuous shifts in the global economy and population dynamics have dramatically increased the demand for healthcare professionals with global health expertise. By delivering lectures from top leaders in the field, the Global Health Scholars Program (GHSP) will encourage scholars to drive change and make positive impacts in underserved communities worldwide.

Why will I LOVE this Program?

This Scholars Program brings together individuals from across the country who are passionate about exploring best practices in improving health outcomes, reducing disparities, and preventing global threats. Students will explore topics that bring together the fields of public health, economics, epidemiology, and medicine through a survey course taught by experts with an array of clinical and research experience. At the end of the course, students will become knowledgeable in global health topics and subsequently, more effective and compassionate physicians.
