Tyra Gravesande

Tyra Gravesande is currently a candidate for a Master of Science in Bioethics at Clarkson University-Icahn School of Medicine in Potsdam, NY. Her coursework in this program includes Healthcare Policy, Bioethics and the Law, Clinical Ethics, Neuroethics, Statistical Methods in Healthcare, Empirical Methods in Healthcare Policy, Reproductive Ethics, Proseminar in Health & Human Values, and Public Health Ethics. Prior to pursuing her Master’s degree, Tyra graduated from Spelman College in Atlanta, GA, in May 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Women’s Studies, where she achieved Cum Laude honors. During her time at Spelman College, she was consistently on the Dean’s List from Fall 2019 to Spring 2021 and again in Spring 2022. She was also a recipient of the WELS Scholar, NSCS, NSLS, Iota Iota Iota (Triota), Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program, and Toni Cade Bambara Writers/Scholars/Activists Program.

Tyra has also made significant contributions to various publications. Tyra M. Additionally, she has a forthcoming publication in the Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, & Neonatal Nursing (JOGNN), titled “The Role of Nurses, Midwives, and Doulas on Breastfeeding Education and Rates: Changes During the COVID-19 Pandemic.” Furthermore, she has submitted a publication titled “Fracking Systems are Politically-Driven and are a Detriment to the Health of Women” to the Department of Comparative Women’s Studies at Spelman College. She has also contributed to a publication on Opioid Harm Reduction at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics, University of Pennsylvania.

Additionally, her leadership and extracurricular activities, including serving as a YouthASC Abortion Doula, the National Race, Ethnicity and Culture in Health Action Committee Chair and the Racism in Medicine Course Director for the American Medical Student Association, further demonstrate her dedication to advocacy and equity. Tyra also worked as a Diversity and Health Equity Intern at the PAN Foundation in Washington, DC. In this role, she conducted research and analysis, particularly in organizations focused on minority populations, nonprofits focused on therapeutic areas, physician organizations, and patient advocacy organizations. She collaborated cross-functionally to develop metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) and Health Equity scorecards. Additionally, she tracked and improved key D/HE metrics and communicated process improvement opportunities across the organization.
