One of the program’s major benefits is an assessment tool that helps medical students become more aware of their own strengths and challenges[vc_single_image image=”1955″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”]Sterling, VA – The American Medical Student Association (AMSA), the nation’s largest and oldest student-run association, has launched the Applied Match Preparation program, aimed at assisting medical students apply for the right residency programs.  The application process – detailed, long, and stressful by all accounts – is best approached with a strong sense of insight, according to Joshua Caulfield, AMSA’s executive director.  For that reason, AMSA has partnered with J3Personica, of New Jersey, an organization focused on identifying characteristics that make for strong resident physicians.  Together, the two organizations will offer a customized “self-awareness” assessment for medical students.

“Applying for residency is the most critical point in a physician’s career,” said Alan Friedman, MA CEO of J3Personica.  “Students will receive unbiased, objective information about their own personality tendencies, after completing the assessment process.”  By enhancing the capability of medical students to increase self awareness, a student’s application efforts can be improved, including, but not limited to better interviewing skills and insight related to writing personal statements.

“Our goal is to diminish the anxiety associated with the Match,” said AMSA’s national president, Kelly Thibert, DO, MPH.  “The program’s expert coaches, combined with the AMSA Self Awareness Assessment Tool and other resources, offer all the components to make the Match as smooth as possible.”

The Applied Match Preparation program is specifically for members of AMSA and also includes personalized coaching services, videos, podcasts, and articles to help guide students as they apply for residency.
