Mahek Khiantani

Premedical Trustee

Mahek Khiantani is a fourth-year student at the University of South Florida majoring in Biomedical Sciences and minoring in Public Health. She is from Belize, a beautiful country in the Caribbean known as a ‘melting pot of cultures’ for its rich diversity. Mahek sits on AMSA’s Board of Trustees as the Pre-Medical Trustee. Growing up in Belize, she developed passions for service and global health where she started a community service club working in a team of amazing and hard-working young individuals to carry out projects such as food drives for families residing in rural areas.

Mahek served as AMSA’s Global Health Programming Coordinator in the previous year working on projects to advocate for global health disparities in different communities. Reflecting on her time in AMSA and her pre-medical journey after moving to the US has motivated her to become an advocate for pre-medical students. As Pre-Medical Trustee, she is eager to engage with AMSA chapters to learn about and build on what can be done for pre-medical students, finding ways to build the connection between AMSA chapters and AMSA National. Mahek’s efforts include advocating for international pre-medical students, finding ways to expand pre-medical resources to them. She recently submitted a resolution that was passed for a new international pre-medical membership category. Mahek hopes to work with pre-medical students in her hometown and in other countries to assist them in starting AMSA chapters of their own.

Mahek is a Public Relations Officer at her university’s AMSA Chapter and a medical scribe at the Cardiovascular Center of Tampa. Mahek also holds a passion for marketing and social media and is currently a Student Ambassador for Kaplan Test Prep. She hopes to carry out this passion to utilize it in assisting other pre-medical students in the future. She loves to travel and has been to 14 different countries documenting her travel experiences on TikTok. In her free time, Mahek enjoys photography, watching Korean dramas, and spending time with her family. Mahek is excited to continue working with AMSA’s community.
