August 13, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FEB 24, 2014

Sterling, VA—The American Medical Student Association (AMSA)—the oldest and largest independent organization of physicians-in-training in the United States—and the AMSA Foundation today announce the appointment of their new Executive Director. Joshua Caulfield, IOM, was selected following an extensive and thorough executive search process.

For the past four years, Caulfield has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the American Institute of Architecture Students, where he increased non-dues revenue and membership. He also dedicated himself to improving advocacy outreach and industry relations.

“Joshua is an action-oriented leader with the experience AMSA needs to move forward,” says AMSA National President Dr. Nida Degesys. “He has just the right combination of commitment to AMSA’s values, enthusiasm and vision, coupled with experience in association management. With his experience in revenue growth, membership growth, and enhanced partner relations, we welcome Joshua’s entrepreneurial spirit to AMSA and look forward to his leadership.”

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to join such an extraordinary group of emerging leaders,” says Caulfield. “AMSA’s storied history, the members’ passion, and the excellence of the current staff made the decision to come aboard an easy one. I look forward to adding my expertise and competencies to the organization as we grow AMSA into the next-generation association it is meant to be.”

Caulfield has additional chief staff officer experience from the International Game Developers Association and the American Machine Tool Distributors’ Association. He was awarded the IOM graduate recognition for having completed a comprehensive course of study in nonprofit management through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Institute for Organization Management. He has an undergraduate degree in marketing and economics from Babson College and an M.B.A. from The American University.

“He is well-positioned to bring the AMSA Foundation to the next level in terms of novel approaches for growing educational initiatives and opportunities for physicians-in-training that are at the core of AMSA’s mission,” says Dr. James M. Slayton, M.B.A., president of the AMSA Foundation Board of Directors.

The search was conducted by Tuft & Associates, Inc.
