Student Doctor Oak Sonfist, who uses they/them pronouns, is a dedicated and passionate individual on a mission to make a difference in the world of healthcare. They specialize in medical school education reform, with a focus on transgender healthcare, rural health, trauma-informed care, and clinician mental health and wellbeing. Having served as the Participant – Education and Advocacy Fellow (EAF) with the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) over the last year, Oak has been instrumental in advocating for reducing barriers for physicians to receive their own mental health care. They have worked closely with medical state boards, national organizations, educational institutions, and medical students to foster awareness and support. Oak’s unwavering commitment to enhancing physician well-being continues as they continue to serve AMSA for a second year as the EAF. Their dedication to learning, serving others, and their creative pursuits such as painting and hiking with their dog Prudence showcase the multifaceted nature of this remarkable individual, leaving a positive impact on the lives of those they touch.
