Lekha joined Med Out The Vote (MOTV) as a Policy coordinator in 2019, and now serves as a Co-Chair for the initiative. As a medical student in South Texas, Lekha works with a patient population impacted by documentation status concerns and national immigration policy developments. In response, Lekha has created an Immigration Policy training for healthcare workers: a grass-roots organizing experience that has opened her eyes to the pressing need for community representation in democracy as a pillar of patient health. As a result, Lekha has worked on the MOTV team to create and disseminate resources for healthcare worker mobilization as well as resource development to engender a culture of civic participation as a part of medical education. She is a graduate of Emory university, where she majored in Chemistry and Religion with a focus on Buddhist philosophy. Lekha is now a 3rd year medical student and interested in Pediatrics/ Medical Genetics with a passion for advocacy work, clinical research, and integrated care. In her free time, Lekha enjoys trying new recipes, meditation, and practicing Indian classical art forms.
