I AM A LOOKING TO GO

Hope, Love & Solidarity in Hard Times
AMSA Reproductive Health Project eNews #54 – September 13, 2025

This week we saw horrific gun violence at Utah Valley University and Evergreen High School in Colorado. The next day threats of violence caused lockdowns at several historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The abortion care community knows all too well the impact of hate speech and political violence. Since 1993 at least 11 people have been killed in violence against abortion providers in the U.S.

We understand it can be so profoundly difficult to bear witness to repeated acts of violence taking place in spaces where everyone should feel safe to live, learn, and exist. We are the first generations in human history to have the capacity to learn about, see, witness, or view the global sum total of human-caused violence, suffering, and death, all in an instant.

We recognize that each of us is living in this and through this, and we are each affected in so many ways. We know all of this takes place within a larger context of increasing escalation of other pervasive forms of violence and oppression and that this moment can feel so destabilizing and disempowering.

We want to state clearly: the AMSA Repro Project, and all of AMSA,
is a place where students’ voices, stories, and lived experiences matter deeply.

Stay tuned! We are exploring ways we can demonstrate love and solidarity with and for each other, especially as we continue to shape our work in alignment with AMSA’s values and vision for a just society and world. Please send your ideas to us at rhp@amsa.org

Meanwhile, watch for AMSA’s upcoming Statement on Recent Campus Violence and the Public Health Crisis of Gun Violence, and we invite you to explore and share the resources below.

With love and solidarity,
