I AM A LOOKING TO GO

Viability, Shield Laws, Telemedicine News & More! – AMSA Reproductive Health Project eNews #51 – August 2, 2025

Greetings from the AMSA Reproductive Health Project!

Nearly half way through and what a Summer it’s been already!

The Reproductive Justice Framework names the right to nurture the children we have in a safe and healthy environment yet as record heat advisories across the country increasingly challenge this right the Trump Administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced moves “to end climate regulations under Clean Air Act” unveiling “a proposal to rescind the landmark “endangerment finding, which says that greenhouse gases are a threat to public health.”

“The move would end EPA regulations on greenhouse gases emitted by vehicles from lightweight cars to heavy-duty trucks, while also undercutting rules that limit power plant emissions and control the release of methane by oil and gas companies. The EPA’s new proposal argues that Congress, in the Clean Air Act, does not give the agency the authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.” (Washington Post)

This announcement was made on the heels of deep changes to student loan programs and the largest cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, the Affordable Care Act and food assistance (SNAP) passed along party lines that were signed into law by Trump on July 4th (see details on H.R. 1 in our July 19 Repro eNews).

With all this happening, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Mike Johnson adjourned “Lawmakers to an Early Recess to Avoid Voting on Epstein File Release” sending Congress to home districts for their August Recess. Traditionally, congress members hold Town Hall meetings with constituents during August; learn more as GOP’s summer town hall push gets heated and Congressional Democrats plan red district tours for August recess.
