Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Health Action Committee

Raising awareness and breaking down health barriers for the LGBT community

LGBTPMMission Statement
AMSA's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Health Action Committee is dedicated to supporting LGBT medical students by providing a safe and supportive environment, advocating for their rights against discrimination, and providing resources to make their medical education a positive experience. We also advocate for LGBT patients by supporting the inclusion of LGBT health issues in medical school curricula and improving the quality of patient care through physician sensitivity. Finally, we break down the prejudices and misconceptions concerning LGBT people that act as barriers to education and patient care, by providing medical students with the resources and tools they need to begin advocating for LGBT patients and peers at their institutions.

Together with their school's Queer Alliance, the Premed chapter at UCLA celebrated National Coming Out (as an Ally Day) in 2006! They handed out fliers about AMSA's LGBT activism, and "Straight but not Narrow" pins and rainbow caducei. What will your chapter do on this year's National Coming Out as an Ally Day?
