You’re selected because you embody the AMSA brand: you’re inspired, driven, yet approachable. The kind of people that other medical students are drawn to — and look up to.

At AMSA National, we’ve got lofty goals. They’re achievable, yet, still, lofty.

To make them happen, we need a special force of AMSA ambassadors, like you, to help us forge effective strategies. You’re just the ones to do it.

Let’s unpack first the roles of a Chapter Councilmember, then delve into the benefits of serving this role.

Council members serve as a kind of pollinator between AMSA National and local chapters. To help bring timely and exciting opportunities to chapters — and to connect with them routinely, to help them engage, grow and make change happen on their campuses. Put more finely, in this role, you would:

• Mentor and inspire Chapter Officers — Serve as role model / mentor to new or less-active COs — help us get them activated on issues they care about and acclimated to AMSA.
• Serve as Brand Ambassadors on a national scale — Be the voice of AMSA within your sphere of influence — helping us share key messages and initiatives.
• Listen and Learn — Reach out regularly to your set of Chapters within your region and listen to their stories, challenges and successes to share with your Membership Director.
• Lend strategic input — offering your perspectives and opinions on ideas, campaigns and initiatives intended to help AMSA grow & reach goals.

This Council is streamlined — designed to not add additional work to your plate, or bloat your calendar with more meetings. Rather, we’ll work to be nimble and actionable, leveraging the digital space for quick input, guidance and action at critical points throughout the year. You work closely with National Membership Directors and AMSA Staff who will lend guidance and answer any questions as you go!

• Chapter Oversight
  • Your role will be to touch base with the Chapters Officers in your region routinely through casual connections to let them know what’s new at AMSA, and to lend them support, ideas and guidance to strengthen their chapters. Our newsletter – AMSA Rounds — can help this outreach.
• Curator of Chapter Stories 
  • Monthly, you will review stories submitted from your Chapter Officers to you via Pulse Reports. Your job is to review them and curate your top picks and submit them to your Membership Director.
• Regional Strategist
  • Identify chapters that are crushing it — and those who need help. Help your Membership Director by being a set of strategic eyes and ears of what’s happening within your region.
  • You will be asked to meet within your Membership Director once a month. This meeting shouldn’t be more than an hour.
• Ideator + Road-tester
  • Think of it as a virtual think tank where we will post new ideas, concepts or creative messaging for your input.
  • Content will be shared in ways that are easy to access (online, email or Slack, quick online surveys for examples, whichever is easiest).
• Be the Brand. By simply being you, an inspired AMSA influencer. And also by doing these things:
  • Share campaigns and messages to your chapter — and your mentor chapters via email, social, text, etc. We will ping you with new announcements as they come out. (No more than 3 a month — that we will ask that you simply forward on!)
  • Participate in communications efforts — participating in Chapter Chatter (short, personal, fun stories at our social hours) or lending your input on AMSA National social media (IG campaigns, for example). No more than 3 activities a month: we will ping you when your involvement is needed.
