Jim Curry is proud to serve as the Health Care for All Campaign co-director after six years of membership. Jim is a rising fourth year medical student at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and will be applying to residency in psychiatry in the coming year. He has completed his coursework at UIC for a Masters of Public Health this year, specializing in health policy and administration, with an emphasis on the social determinants of health, uninsurance and health care access, as well as policy analysis. Jim is a graduate of the University of Iowa, receiving a bachelor’s of art in studio art, and a minor in Spanish.
Jim has a long history of leadership within AMSA, beginning with his first experience at a Fall Conference at Des Moines University in 2006. He has founded and headed chapters of AMSA at the University of Iowa and with post-bac and medical students from the National Institutes of Health at the Greater Bethesda AMSA chapter, and most recently served as co-President of AMSA medical chapter at UIC. Jim served terms as Premedical Regional Director for the former Regions 1 and 10, Premedical Trustee, and the IFMSA National Officer on Research Exchange. All along, Jim has had a special interest on health care for all through policy and education, including international education and systems comparison culminating in co-coordinating the 2016 SeaCouver Study Tour through Washington state and British Columbia. He also brings leadership experience via Physicians for a National Health Program, the National Physicians Alliance, and the Chicago and Illinois State Medical Societies.
Jim looks forward to working on areas of policy and advocacy with the leaders, teams and committees in AMSA this year.
