AMSA Jack Rutledge Universal Health Care Internship

The pursuit of universal, quality, equitable, affordable health care for all has been an AMSA strategic priority for nearly its entire existence. AMSA's Jack Rutledge Fellow works full-time to support medical students in their efforts to achieve universal health care. We are looking for enthusiastic students (pre-meds or medical students) to assist, support, and develop the many projects undertaken by the Jack Rutledge Fellow. Opportunities include: organizing a national network of universal healthcare activists, updating AMSA’s educational material, organizing AMSA healthcare study tours, organizing leadership trainings on universal healthcare, educating members around the elections, and various grassroots activities, including supporting efforts for state-based single-payer activism, protecting Medicaid and sCHIP, and more. Interns will gain valuable policy and grassroots organizing experience by attending strategy meetings within AMSA and by collaborating with partner organizations, preparing official statements and conducting health care systems research, and discussing issues with other health professional students and leaders.

No previous experience is necessary, but applicants should have strong writing skills, an ability to work within a team as well as independently and to research health care issues, and most important, a passion for the issue!

Although AMSA cannot provide a stipend, free housing is available near the AMSA national office in Reston, VA just outside of Washington, DC.
