Summary of project On Sat June 4th, students of Medical University of Americas, Nevis coordinated a cholesterol, glucose and blood pressure screening event in Charlestown, Nevis. This event was announced and advertised by the local newspaper and radio stations of Nevis, and the response was incredible. We were all working together in a very organized and efficient manner. 34 local residents of the island participated in our project and we are in the process of analyzing the data. The event was held at Superfoods, one of the local supermarkets of Charlestown. A questionnaire was filled up for each participant, and their weight, height and waist area was measure for BMI calculations. Each participant was tested for blood cholesterol, glucose, and blood pressure. Test results were discussed with each patient immediately and the Faculty and MUA students gave an appropriate recommendation to each person. We are very happy with the outcome and are working on organizing another cholesterol screening event pretty soon.

Lessons/suggestions We should have ordered more test cartridges, and could have stayed longer to test more people if we had more supplies. Everyting went almost perfect.

Comments The space was a bit small but that was the best we could have. It was a hot day outside so we were really luck to have the cool and quiet space at the store.
