Summary of project AMSA Global AIDS Fellow Vishal Patel led a discussion on global HIV/AIDS. Topics covered included: the AIDS Advocacy Network, Healthcare Workers Campaign, Essential Medicines Campaign, PEPFAR, gender equity and microbicides, global health in medical curriculums, and opportunities for student involvement through leadership institutes, service projects, and Worlds AIDS Day Action. The event was recorded and will be posted online. Prior to the talk, we hosted a wine and cheese reception, during which students mingled with AMSA Chapter Officers and heard about upcoming events.

Lessons/suggestions Because the incoming students haven’t started school yet, drawing them to the event was challenging. The Big Sib/Little Sib BBQ was great for advertising, but it was the day before the event so it did not provide people with much notice. Having the even

Comments Vishal is a great speaker and engaged the audience in a thought-provoking discussion. Many students stuck around afterwards to discuss how to get involved.
