| Summary of project | The first of several fundraisers planned for the semester, the Valentine's Day Date Auction was a resounding success. We selected students from each of the terms in the medical program, as well as students from the undergraduate school and from the veterinary school. We also visited local businesses with a letter and a smile and collected "date" donations (e.g. dinner for two, massages for two, SCUBA-diving for two). At the event we auctioned off students assigning dates according to auctionee value. We also sold beverages, and raffle tickets for additional prizes. The event raised 10,000EC (roughly $3,700 USD). 5,000EC of this was donated to the Grenada Heart Foundation (which works to address pediatric cardiological disease, including Rheumatic Heart Disease). The remainder was used to pay operating costs (1,000EC) and fund future AMSA Community Care Health Fairs. |

| Lessons/suggestions | The Date Auction was more successful than we could have even hoped. To improve the event we probably could have put a little more thought into the timing and flow of ceremonies. A microphone check prior to beginning would've helped. We could have done a better job advertising in the undergraduate classes and the vet classes. For someone who wishes to run a Date Auction of their own, remember make it fun and to have fun with it. We spent an hour and a half prior to the event decorating the event space, and it paid off. The ambiance was appreciated by all who attended. Also, make sure you have your auctionees submit a profile and an entrance song for your DJ to play. Lastly, remember to print your "date vouchers" on some form of card-stock or heavy paper (for aesthetic purposes). |
