Summary of project The American Cancer Society's fundraiser, Relay for Life, is a walk-a-thon event that celebrates cancer survivorship. Our local chapter helped the American Cancer Society sponsor this event with other organizations on our campus, and many of our members helped organize and/or participate in the event. Our school raised approximately $22,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Project advertising Fliers were posted around campus, banners were hung, student mailboxes were stuffed with fliers, table tent fliers were placed in dining halls. Advertising was VERY effective. I think most people on our campus were made very aware of the event.

Lessons/suggestions The walk-a-thon was held as an overnight event from 5 pm to 9 am which was very long. I think that in the future, the time should be shortened. I think more college students would have stayed to participate for the full time if it were not an overnight
