Summary of project The Montana branch of UW (20 1st-year med students) contacted a state legislator in Montana, and told her we would support one of her bills. She wanted to raise the "asset test" for getting kids on Medicaid. We unanimously supported this bill, writing letters, speaking at the Capitol, and educating our peers on the issue. The bill passed!! And it seemed like we made an important difference -- the legislator we supported used much of our information throughout the process, including on the House and Senate floors

Lessons/suggestions Contacting a legislator we knew we could support, and asking what we can do to help, really seemed to work great. We were in a small state, but are currently trying to replicate our strategy in the state of Washington.
