Summary of project At U of L a group of first year medical students were going on a medical trip to Ecuador. The students needed money for supplies. AMSA and International Medicine Club threw a fundraiser at Jillian's (which is a bar with pool tables and games) We charged 5 dollars to enter and had a team pool tournament (4 dollars per team). Prizes were gift certificates given to AMSA from local businesses. Also a free band played. The event went very well and was fairly easy to plan.

Lessons/suggestions Advertise early but send reminders before event. Be aggressive to get a deal from the location. Have the event on a weekday then the bar/club/whatever will more likely give you a better price for the room. Advertise free prizes.
