Truancy Prevention Program - Dayton, Ohio
The Truancy Prevention Program provides comprehensive services that focus on the provision of culturally-specific prevention education, training, early intervention and treatment referral services to parents of truant youth and their families. Such parents and families are exposed to skill-building exercises and activities that foster self-empowerment and increase awareness and knowledge. A sense of competency is instilled in the parents so that they can become more involved in their children's educational, personal and social lives.

Parent Party Patrol - Tacoma, Washington
The mission of the Parent Party Patrol (PPP) is to diminish unchaperoned parties and adult-sponsored drinking parties. This grass-roots, all-volunteer organization provides free expert panel presentations and disseminates information to educate parents and community groups about the dangerous social activities and legal and civil ramifications that parents and youth can face as the result of unchaperoned parties or adult-sponsored drinking parties. PPP also empowers communities to develop strategies and implement corrective-action alternatives.

Highgate Youth and Family Services Program - Montpelier, Vermont
The Highgate Youth and Family Service Program is a multi-faceted, substance abuse prevention/early intervention program for youth who live in a rural, isolated, low-income housing complex in Barre, VT. Prevention strategies include parental involvement, social and communication skill-building, education, recreation, academic support, counseling, community service, and advocacy. Designed and implemented by the Washington County Youth Service Bureau in collaboration with the Highgate Residents Association, the program works to create a reclaiming environment , one in which both individuals and the Highgate community move away from disillusionment and resignation and toward health, achievement and empowerment.

Community Youth Program - New York, New York
The Community Youth Program of the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center has been successfully providing free counseling and support to New York City adolescents, ages 10-21, at high risk for substance abuse for two decades. The program's mission is the prevention of adolescent substance and alcohol abuse and related risk behaviors through the delivery of high quality, early intervention counseling services to high risk teenagers and their families. Holistic services are designed to enhance individual and family resiliencies and strengths.

The Hispanic Initiative - Annapolis, Maryland
The Hispanic Initiative, located at the Allen Apartment Complex in Annapolis, Maryland, was created to address the tremendous needs of the large population of Spanish-speaking immigrants residing in the county. The project began with a focus on alcohol and drug prevention and is now a comprehensive health program using recreational family activities and home visits to increase alcohol and drug family protective factors. The resident-created Allen Apartments Tenant Association does its own resource development and grant writing.
