Medicaid
- In 2001, there were about 41 million Americans who relied on Medicaid as their primary source of health insurance.
- Participation in public insurance such as Medicaid hinges on state eligibility.
- Increasing one's income, even if barely above the eligibility limit, may result in a total loss of Medicaid coverage, even if workplace health benefits are not available or affordable.
- Low-income, recent immigrants are not eligible for Medicaid.
