LACK OF HEALTH INSURANCE
(11 OF 13)

Medicaid

  • In 2001, there were about 41 million Americans who relied on Medicaid as their primary source of health insurance.

  • Participation in public insurance such as Medicaid hinges on state eligibility.

  • Increasing one's income, even if barely above the eligibility limit, may result in a total loss of Medicaid coverage, even if workplace health benefits are not available or affordable.

  • Low-income, recent immigrants are not eligible for Medicaid.
