Tell us YOUR story!
Confidentiality Agreement: AMSA will keep your identifiable information strictly confidential, unless you give us permission to use it. Please include your name or email in your submission so that we may contact you regarding your story. However, we will accept anonymous submissions. For more information, contact AMSA's Legislative Affairs Director, at (703) 620-6600 x 211.

AMSA is working on various initiatives and would truly appreciate your input and experiences pertaining to any of the following topic areas (please select one of the following areas in which you have an experience to convey):

Universal Health Care
As part of our campaign to demonstrate the need for universal health care, we are collecting stories on the uninsured in America. Describe a time where you have seen someone's health suffer as a result of not being able to access the health care system (due to lack of health insurance, inadequate health insurance, or any other reasons).

Disparities in Medicine
One of AMSA's goals is to demonstrate the need for cultural competency training in medical school, residency, and CME and to educate physicians-in-training on this topic. Describe a time when you have seen poor communication or discrimination between a patient and any care giver (medical student/resident/attending) that could have been remedied by sensitivity/diversity training.

Medical Student Well-Being
Medical education is overtly hierarchical. Although this is the case, sometimes this hierarchy goes too far and people are berated or abused in ways that are not conducive to an educational environment. Please describe an instance where this has happened to you. Include general details of the situation, the emotions that you felt, and any resolution to this issue that may have come about.

Resident Work Hours
AMSA is documenting the effect of the new work hour regulations. If your program is in violation of the new regulations, or if you have suffered harassment or abuse from your program, please share your story. Your stories will provide valuable insight into the effectiveness of the new regulations, and help AMSA in its advocacy efforts for improved resident working conditions. AMSA will maintain your confidentiality in any instance where your story may be used. If you have any questions regarding this story bank, contact AMSA's Legislative Affairs Director at (703) 620-6600 x211 or lad@amsa.org.
