Regardless of which medical specialty you chose to pursue, mental health is an important part of our patient's overall health. Disturbances in mental health may present in a variety of different ways, some of which are difficult to uncover. It is not uncommon for a patient to present with a physical complaint at the general practice clinic, only to be discovered that it is psychiatric in origin. Trauma and bariatric surgeons, among others, must also recognize the mental aspects of their patient's conditions. Post-partum depression and anxiety are just a few examples of how mental health problems can manifest uniquely in women's health. And with the rise in cases of autism and ADHD that is made obvious through the media, pediatrics is not sparred from the potential devastation of mental disorders.
One of the goals of the mental health interest group is to provide a forum for discussion of mental health topics. Also, here you will find a variety of mental health resources, including toolkits, links and important dates. Feel free to browse the website and email us if you have any content suggestions.
