Welcome to Vanderbilt University SOM Local LGBTPM ChapterMission The Vanderbilt Medical School's Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) is an active student organization at the medical school, with strong support from the VMS administration and from students of all sexual orientations. Our mission is two-fold: to educate the greater Vanderbilt medical community on health issues that pertain to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) patients and health care providers and to provide a support network for GLBT medical students. Towards the first aim of our mission, we host one or two lectures during the academic year on subjects pertaining to GLBT health. Toward the second aim of our mission, we host social activities throughout the year and an annual all-school party at the Dean of Students’ residence. We are striving to provide an open, welcoming, and gay-friendly environment at our medical school. Premed Applicant Information 1. Vanderbilt has an on-line hosting forum for all medical school applicants. If you'd like a LGBT medical student to host you, please mention that. 2. Please contact our group president, Chris Kidd, our group adviser, Dr. Harris, or our Dean of Students, Dr. Rodgers. 3. Our Dean of Students is openly gay, and our school is very welcoming to its LGBT population. Several faculty members are also openly gay. See our website for Vanderbilt-wide groups. LGBT Events
