Welcome to Univ of Michigan Med School Local LGBTPM Chapter Mission Promote awareness of LGBT medical issues in the University of Michigan Medical School by: 1. Regular reviews of curricula 2. Outreach activities including lunch-time discussions and mentorship opportunities in the University undergraduate program Establish professional contacts and networking opportunities with medical professionals for students through the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA), LGBT People in Medicine (AMSA), UMMS and University Health Services Provide a socially supportive environment for LGBT students and allies at UMMS and within the University’s graduate schools Serve as a resource for UMMS individuals or groups requesting information about conferences, community activities and supportive venues. Premed Applicant Information Applicants to UMMS are encouraged to come out and state their LGBT status since being LGBT is viewed as contributory to UM's committment to diversity and being LGBT can only help in your admission to UMMS. LGBT Events Student Panel - TBA Contact: Jesse Markman Students in the 1-4th years will talk about coming out of the closet and being gay in medical school and on the wards. This is the chance to ask any and all questions of your LGBT colleagues. This event has been a huge success since 2002. UMHS Pride Network Meeting - September 23rd, 2-3pm Contact: Cathy Frank Meeting of UMich Hospital Pride Network - a group of LGBT folks and Allies who work in the UM Health System. All employees, students and residents are welcome. At this meeting we will discuss the use of CTools and vision/mission statement. Gender identity is also included in the greater UM policy as well.
