Welcome to RFUMS's homepage!

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) & Allied People in Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University School of Medicine is dedicated to supporting LGBT & allied medical students by providing a safe and supportive environment, advocating for their rights against discrimination, and providing resources to make their medical education a positive experience. We recognize that LGBT medical students are part of a unique minority because it is undetected. Unlike other minorities, LGBT medical students choose to risk open harassment, bigotry, and discrimination when they choose to be open about their identity and publicly associate themselves with the LGBT community. We also advocate for LGBT patients by supporting the inclusion of LGBT health issues in medical school curricula and improving the quality of patient care through physician sensitivity. Finally, we work to break down the prejudices and misconceptions concerning LGBT people that act as barriers to education and patient care, by providing medical students with the resources and tools they need to begin advocating for LGBT patients and peers at their institutions. As with all LGBTPM events, LGBT and Allied Straight medical students who want to be part of our advocacy family are welcome! We only ask that all those attending respect the individuality of others and their differing degrees of "OUT-ness".
