AMSA Health Policy InternshipAmerican Medical Student Association (AMSA) is accepting applications for summer and Fall internships in health policy at AMSA's national headquarters near Washington, D.C. This internship is a great opportunity for pre-medical & medical students and residents interested in health policy, public health, diversity in medicine, global health, and politics. AMSA’s Political Affairs Intern will help coordinate AMSA’s efforts to shape the health platforms of presidential candidates and political parties as we move toward the 2008 presidential elections. AMSA’s Universal Healthcare Intern will help coordinate AMSA’s state and federal work around expanding healthcare to millions of the uninsured. AMSA’s Medical Education Intern will monitor legislation on medical education financing and delivery and work to reduce the student debt burden faced by medical students through meetings with legislators, the AMA and other student groups. AMSA’s Global Health Intern will work to defend access to treatment for people in the developing world through advocacy around key legislation and educational. Applicants may also combine components of the above to craft their own internship in health policy. In addition interns will work with AMSA's Legislative Director, assisting in the everyday business of AMSA's Legislative Branch. This work is varied and exciting, and may include:
No previous policy or political experience is necessary.Internships for Fall – Spring of 2009 are 4-12 weeks in length with flexible dates. Academic credit for electives often can be arranged with your home institution. Late Summer internships are also available. They are typically 6-8 weeks in length, with flexibility with when you would start. The application deadline for summer internships is April 29th. You will be notified by May 15th. Students must be AMSA members at the time of their internship; applicants can join AMSA online if they aren't already a member. Although AMSA cannot provide a stipend, free housing is available. Complete applications will consist of a current resume and a 350 word letter of intent referencing AMSA’s current campaigns and strategic priorities (found on AMSA’s website).
