So you've heard about the Humanistic Elective in alternative medicine, Activism and Reflective Transformation, aka HEART! Here's your chance to get involved, and create the most meaningful experience for yourself and 25 other fortunate medical students!

WHAT is the HEART PLANNING TEAM?

Fun, amazing, and the opportunity to work with amazing medical students and fulfill the deep part of yourself knowing that lives will be exponentially impacted because of your effort!

Description of Roles

I. Committees

  1. Curricula and Faculty (CF)
  2. AMSA, PR and creative Expression (APE)
  3. Finances and Accreditation Forms Structural Assembly (FAFSA)
  4. Grant efforts
  5. Budget and Finances
  6. Accreditation
  7. Assessment and Student Selection (ASS)
  8. Student Director, Site Selection, Site Logisticator (SSS)

The committees will be an active portion of each of your planning experiences. Each planning team member will take on the point person role of their committee, and will serve as a secondary on another committee. The roles can be divided according to the wishes of each planning team.

II. Faculty and Resident Advisors

You inherit a project that is an incarnation of efforts begun in the late 1990's. As such, you have people with pragmatic experience in what you will be doing together this year. A few of these folks will comprise a faculty advising team (in the past those roles have been filled by Nina Stoyan-Rosenzweig, Wendy Kohatsu and Bill Manahan), and you will negotiate the extent to which they contribute this year (you can do it without any assistance or forgo the opportunity to create HEART and have faculty do much of the work). Additionally, a committee of HEART alumni has been assembled who will be there for support and to further the mission of HEART. The HEART planning team will also work directly with the AMSA Director of Student Planning.
