MICROBICIDES LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

    MICROBICIDES
LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

April 11-13, 2008

Application Deadline:
Monday, March 17, 2008

Address questions or concerns to Saira Alimohamed, Gender Equity Coordinator.

Worldwide, nearly 40 million people are living with HIV/AIDS. HIV is affecting women and girls in increasing numbers, with the percentage of infections growing every year. 25 years into the epidemic, gender inequality and the low status of women are key factors in the spread of the virus. Current AIDS strategies do not address the needs of women, and the pandemic is not slowing.

What can YOU do to help?

We are looking for motivated students who have a passion to improve the lives of others. We seek students who are enthusiastic about public health, are committed to reducing global health disparities, and have a strong interest in reproductive health. Selected students are expected to take the lead as part of the AIDS Advocacy Network (AAN)/Global Campaign for Microbicides, and to be active in the planning and implementation of the platform.

If selected, you will be expected to

  • Actively Plan and Execute AIDS Advocacy Network Events
  • Join the National Microbicides Task Force
  • Present on Microbicides at Your School and Within Your Community
  • Organize One Lobby Day or Direct Action Event Related to Microbicides in Your Region
  • Attend Your AMSA Regional Conference, Present on Microbicides

Topics to be discussed

  • HIV/AIDS and its impact worldwide
