Global AIDS Week of Action
February 26 (Youth AIDS Day)-March 2, 2007
Our Future. Our Crisis. Fight Global AIDS.
From February 26- March 2, 2007 thousands of students across the country will take part in the 2007 Global AIDS Week of Action presented by Physicians for Human Rights, Student Global AIDS Campaign, University Coalitions for Global Health and the American Medical Student Association.
There has never been a greater need for the voice of health professionals to call attention to the speed in which HIV/AIDS has engulfed the developing world. With 8,200 deaths and 15,000 new infections each day, we need YOU to take action!
Your chapter will join a community of thousands of students in a national week of education and action to fight the greatest health crisis of our generation. Campuses will be organizing their own events with help from regional and national AMSA, SGAC, UCGH and PHR leaders. Many schools are also working together to create meaningful regional events, particularly involving political leaders or community members.
The Week of Action Topics include but are not limited to:
- Brain drain and the need for health system strengthening
- Treatment access-trade agreements and big pharma
- Comprehensive prevention, treatment, and care for IV drug users
- Gender disparities and microbicides
- International Monetary Fund and policy reform
- TB and Malaria
