Student Intern Position Available
for
End of Life Care Fellowship Program

Background

The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) Foundation's End of Life Education Fellowship Program is a six-week summer experience designed to introduce up to eight medical students to end of life care issues. Based in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area, this program combines an orientation to end of life care with weekly seminars and field placements at local hospices, nursing homes and inpatient hospice units. AMSA is seeking a student intern to assist AMSA and Vitas Innovative Hospice Care in coordinating the program in Florida this summer.

Responsibilities

Working in conjunction with AMSA's staff at the national office in Reston, VA and Vitas in Ft. Lauderdale, the student intern will help coordinate and conduct program logistics for End of Life Education Leadership Training Program in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale in the following ways:

  • Prepare orientation and program materials for students,
  • Advise students on lodging in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area,
  • Assist AMSA with processing payroll,
  • Assist Vitas in contacting and confirming faculty,
  • Assist students in identifying resources for their research projects,
  • Serve as liaison between Vitas, AMSA, and participating students,
  • Assist Vitas in conducting and summarizing evaluations,
  • Assist Vitas in developing final report and recommendations for follow-up and for the following year's program,
  • Offer administrative support to Vitas.

Qualifications

The applicant should be a pre-medical, medical, or health professions student with an interest in health care and end of life issues. The intern must be familiar with the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area. The applicant should possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is necessary. The position is available for 8-9 weeks during the summer from early June until mid-August.

Compensation

$350 per week
