Immunizations
A Boost to Health
In the last 120 years, medicine has come a long way. Yet Allopaths and Osteopaths are so
used to their modern methods of medicine, that they sometimes forget about
their roots. The truth is that most of the reasons we are so healthy
today and living longer are not due to pills and modern medicine, but rather
from public health efforts.
Traditionally public health efforts have focused on preventing sickness and death, i.e. primary
prevention. The most effective efforts have been in the fields of
sanitation, clean water, clean food, quarantine and immunizations.
It is important for all students to realize this so that we can continue
to invest in these safe and cost-effective resources. Better to prevent
disease now, then have to deal with its sequela later.
