era of physician advocacy. Students have been the change in health,
and it is time to reclaim the profession in the name of our patients.

take the next step to transform our passion and ideals into action
throughout our careers.

On Wednesday, March 12, 2008, the Convention
will begin with an all-day Kickoff Symposium on the health effects
of the environment. Topics will include climate change, pollution,
environmental racism and responsible urban development and will be
addressed in both plenary and break-out sessions.

for you, including the 10th Annual Medical School Fair. Start planning
now, and contact Tej Nuthulaganti,
AMSA premedical trustee, if you have any questions.
RESIDENT PROGRAMMING
Attention residents! Keeping your eyes on the prize can be tough
if you get isolated during residency or afterward. That's why
we're working to rejuvenate the resident section of AMSA. Join
us in Houston, TX for important discussions on how we can help
keep you going during residency and beyond.
PREMEDICAL, INTERNATIONAL AND RESIDENT/ALUMNI
CAUCUS'
There are several times throughout convention where these groups
of attendees will convene separately. On Saturday, March 15, caucuses will be held
for each individual group to choose the 2008-09 premedical, international
and resident trustees of the board of trustees. The premedical
regional directors and the associate international trustee will
also be elected during their respective caucus'.
REGIONAL MEETINGS
Regional meetings provide an outstanding opportunity for medical
students in the same
geographic area to get to know one another. In addition,
members can address important business items during these meetings,
including regional opinions on resolutions for the House of Delegates; election of regional trustees and regional
programming coordinators and plan the upcoming fall and spring
workshops.
HOUSE OF DELEGATES
A vital part of the health and evolution of our organization
is through AMSA's House of Delegates (HOD), where chapter delegates
vote on resolutions
submitted by AMSA members. The resolutions that pass become AMSA's
policies and principles. You will hear official, year-end
reports to the HOD from the executive director,
national president and treasurer, and vote on the candidates for national office
to lead your Association. Three committees are important to a
well-functioning HOD: reference, nominations and credentials. Committee members' convention
registration fees are waived for their service to the HOD.
LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
There is no place better than AMSA to become a leader in medicine
today. You will hear from physicians who started as leaders through
AMSA, and you can participate in a training session for Chapter
Officers to further develop your leadership skills. As the nation's
largest independent student-run organization, AMSA offers an
unprecedented number of leadership positions for medical students.
National opportunities are available in the following areas:
community and public health,
global health, health policy, humanistic
medicine, LGBT health,
medical education, minority health,
women's health, and
many more. Become a member of AMSA's Board
of Trustees to lead the national priorities of the association.
These opportunities are only available at the Annual Convention.
