amsa's 53nd annual convention
Transforming Medicine
March 19-23, 2003 * Washington, DC

AMSA's 53rd Annual ConventionWith a war beginning in Iraq, the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) brought a message of peace, healing and change to the nation's capital for AMSA's 53rd Annual Convention (March 19-23).

Gathering under the theme "Transforming the Culture of Medicine," the more than 1,200 attendees engaged in interactive workshops, informative sessions and informal discussion groups. Topics ranged from health disparities to alternative medicine, from the global HIV/AIDS epidemic to taking a sexual history, from disabled people in medicine to career guidance for premedical students.

And in a further expression of their activism and passion, approximately 150 future physicians braved the wet and cold to voice their support for universal health care at a rally on Capitol Hill. With the Capitol dome providing the backdrop, AMSA leaders and federal legislators talked about perhaps the biggest transformation of all-providing health care to every American.

Congratulations to our two $5,000 scholarship winners!
