  • Connecting the Dots Throughout Medical School

    "You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever" -- Steve Jobs

    This quote is one of many that can describe the hard rigors of medical school training. When you are constantly studying hour after hour, day after day, time becomes a blur and sometimes the end goal becomes fuzzy. You feel that you are simply doing tasks that become “dots” on a timeline. You know that you need to understand the anatomy, pass the practicals, and trust that the work you do will get you to the next level of training. But there is never enough time to learn everything or know everything. This is when you have to trust….whatever it may be. Trust that the hours of work you put in are making you a more competent person and somehow things will come together in the years that are to come.
