American Medical Student Association

AMSA Academy is a training ground for physician leaders, established by and for students. The Academy strives to empower medical students to effect change in medicine. Combining didactic with experiential learning, AMSA Academy courses take medical students through the core competencies of leadership and project implementation, while building on key principles of important topics in medicine.

Each program fosters the value of health care must be patient-centered, effective, efficient, safe, equitable, and timely, as identified by the Institute of Medicine. We see our mission as training physician leaders in order to transform the face of medicine.

INSTITUTES

• Intensive experiences, 3–5 days in length, with both didactic and experiential learning components
• Combines student-led and field expert-led sessions
• Includes in-depth coverage of a specific subject (varies by course) supplemented with training in project planning, implementation & dissemination
• AMSA Institutes are open to pre-medical, medical, resident, and allied health members 

SCHOLARS PROGRAMS

• Year-long distance learning courses structured around selected readings, response papers, and conference call discussions led by field experts
• Themes for the course change annually
• Participants are partnered with mentors to facilitate continued learning

ELECTIVES

• One month long residential experience at a California retreat center
• The first-ever student-run accredited medical school program, providing academic credit that is transferable to most medical schools
• Participants include allopathic (MD), osteopathic (DO), & naturopathic (ND) students
• Rigorous academics, “hands-on” learning, and life-changing experiences
