PPP HomePRINCIPLES REGARDING AGING
The American Medical Student
Association:
1. URGES that medical schools be
mandated to establish teaching programs in geriatric medicine as an integral
part of the formal curriculum;
2. SUPPORTS the establishment of
competency standards in geriatric medicine for the licensing and certification
of all physicians;
3. ENCOURAGES the providing of funds to
schools of medicine and other organizations for training and research in the
field of aging;
4. ENCOURAGES those specialties that
treat large numbers of elderly patients to recognize the special needs of the
elderly and to include training about these needs in medical school and
residency programs. (1985)
