The Integrative, Complementary, and Alternative Medicine (ICAM) group at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine is a student group that is striving to promote the awareness and understanding of complementary and alternative medical practices (i.e., acupuncture, herbs, meditation, naturopathy, etc.) among medical students and physicians. Medical student well-being both physiological, physical, and spiritual is a focus of our group and we work to maintain health and wellness of our community of healers. We believe that a basic understanding of commonly used complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies is essential for health professionals in today's medical landscape. We work in association, on national level with the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) Humanistic Medicine Action Committee. In this capacity we attend national conventions, retreats, and work with each other to improve the education of medical students on issues related to wellness, complementary and alternative medical practices, and humanism. We welcome and embrace all new ideas and members.

Philadelphia COM*

The AHMA club is committed to presenting any alternative medicine topics that interest club members. In the past we have invited people to talk about running a holistic practice, nutrition, acupuncture, muscle energy, and more. We also do morning meditations, yoga, and vegetarian cooking and other activities for a healthy lifestyle. We are hoping to do another CAM conference inviting holistic practitioners again to our school as we did this year, but because Philadelphia is full of medical schools, we are aiming to do a city-wide conference with the help of other schools.

Monthly potlucks at a local physician's house focus on topics that effect the health not only of patients, but of physicians and physicians in training, while fostering a safe, open environment that encourage students to delve deeper into themselves to find their own convictions, Achilles' heels, fears, and strengths. The overall goal is to expose students to radically wider ways of thinking about the healing arts, and what is required to be a healer versus a doctor.
