AMSA Premeds in ACTION

Take ACTION in your journey to medical school with AMSA

I think we can all agree that applying to medical school can be a long, comprehensive and exhausting process. One of the things that premedical and undergraduate students excel at is having the ambition and drive to get involved, down and dirty, and diving head first into opportunities to make a difference and see something new. For more than 50 years, AMSA has been dedicated to serving the needs of physicians-in-training. Premedical students are most certainly physicians-in-training, and are encouraged to join in on the opportunities that AMSA can offer students.

AMSA Pre-Medical Chapter at UCLA for Chapter of the Month

The AMSA Pre-Medical Chapter at UCLA encompasses what officers and members have come to call "pre-med amazingness" among AMSA Bruins.

At the start of this new academic year, membership has been higher than ever and the camaraderie felt among members is what the chapter strives for.  AMSA Bruins strive to have members not only involved with the organization but also engaged with one another.  The chapter has begun a membership mentor program wherein members are not only offered mentors from the David Geffen School of Medicine but are also eligible to have their upperclassmen peers serve mentors themselves.  To publicize for Lobby Day, the Legislative Action Committee has a UCSF medical student to speak with members about healthcare and where doctors fit into the big picture.  Previously, the chapter invited and welcomed Former CA State Senator Sheila Kuehl as a guest speaker.  With healthcare reform at the forefront of public debates, the chapter not only caters to the interests of its members but also opens the arena for students to learn about the healthcare system from leaders in the debate.  Within the Advocacy Action Committee, members have the opportunity to interview local physicians and discover their positions on the direction of medicine.  Another officer who works in the emergency room of a local hospital has invited emergency room physicians to discuss their medical experiences and share their stories with respect to the ER life.

In all, AMSA Bruins are packed with "pre-med amazingness."
