  • Prescriptions You Can Begin Writing Today 
    Information about various preventive medicine/wellness initiatives that will be enacted due to national healthcare reform 
  • American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) “Careers In Preventive Medicine” slide show

  • Prevalent Public Health Problems
  • Warning signs of domestic violence
  • AIDS counseling
  • Smoking cessation
  • Family planning
  • Depression – detection and treatment
  • Substance abuse
  • Sexual health problems/sexual history taking
  • “Physician(in-training)heal thyself” activity since medical students often find themselves under intense pressure and living hectic lives often they don't take care of themselves as well as they should. Students could:
    • Design and administer health surveys to peers
    • Sponsor speakers who focus on how to maintain good health and balanced nutrition while in medical school, etc.
    • AMSA’s own Wellness Resource Guide
    • Have a fellow student or physician lead a fitness session (aerobics, yoga, kick-boxing, etc.) or a seminar on nutrition for medical students

Grassroots

  • Tobacco Awareness Project
  • Sponsor a local health fair
  • AIDS and STD presentation at local high schools
  • Activity at an elementary school about nutrition, healthy decision making, or drugs and alcohol
    • Collaborate with local elementary schools to begin a TarWars campaign (1 hour tobacco-free education program for 4th & 5th graders)
    • Kickoff Ready, Set, Fit! at a local school to stress the importance of fitness & nutrition in 3rd & 4th graders
