HOPE…A simple word yet it means so much to someone in need. Give someone hope. GIVE BLOOD!

Did you know that every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood? Yet blood cannot be manufactured; it must be given by volunteer donors. Because blood has a limited shelf life, the community blood supply must constantly be replenished to meet patient’s needs. Why is your blood needed? Only 38% of Americans are eligible to donate blood and out of those only 8% actually do. That amounts to only about 3 out of every 100 people. Blood donors can make a life-saving contribution by giving blood. That’s right – Life Saving.

Each year in the United States, as many as four million people will require blood transfusions. Is there someone in your family who may be one of these four million people this year? Thanks to volunteer blood donors, the American Red Cross can help meet these patient’s needs. These patient’s are our family, friends and neighbors.

Giving blood is safe, easy and less painful than one might imagine. Donors often feel a fulfilling sense of contribution and pride knowing they are part of a life-saving team. The schedule is on-line right now so won’t you please share an hour of your life to save a life. Imagine what that hour could do.

Benefits of Donating

  • You will be someone's hero – in fact, you may help as many as three people with just one donation
  • It feels great to donate!
  • You get free juice and cookies.
  • It's something you can spare – most people have blood to spare... yet, there is still not enough to go around.
  • You will help ensure blood is on the shelf when needed – most people don't think they'll ever need blood, but many do.

Project Linus – no-sew blankets

Project Linus is comprised of hundreds of local chapters and thousands of volunteers across the United States. Each volunteer and local chapter all work together to help us achieve our mission statement, which states:

First, it is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.” Second, it is our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

Together we have distributed over three million blankets to children in need since our inception in 1995.

Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) – Birthday posters

There is no greater reward than being able to help a sick child.
The volunteers at CHOC Children's generously donate their time to help us provide the very best pediatric services in Orange County. For more than 40 years, the volunteer programs at CHOC and CHOC at Mission have provided vital assistance to all hospital departments.

CHOC decorates patient rooms if they are celebrating their birthdays while in the hospital. AMSA is taking on the task of designing Birthday posters for these children. It’s time to get the creative juices flowing. Instructions and materials will be provided on site.
