LGBT Health Achievement Award

The AMSA/Gay and Lesbian Medical Association LGBT Health Achievement Award recognizes the hard work and dedication of a medical school, student group or individual for exemplary achievement in advocating the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) health issues or concerns within their medical school and medical centers. This year’s recipients are Neir Eshel and Michael Honigberg and the entire Harvard Medical School Kinsey Two-Sixers LGBTQ and Ally Group.

National Golden Apple Award for Teaching Excellence

AMSA’s National Golden Apple Award for Teaching Excellence recognizes the contributions of a medical school professor who has made a significant impact on medical students’ education. Award recipients are nominated and selected by medical students. This year’s winners are Anthony Tobia, M.D. and Barbara Palmeri, M.D. from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The nominating student was Jennifer Platt, D.O.

The Paul R. Wright Excellence in Medical Education Award

The Chapter Success Paul R. Wright Award recognizes those chapters that support AMSA’s mission and are dedicated to inspiring future physician leaders. AMSA established this award in honor of its Executive Director Emeritus. This year’s recipients are the American International Medical University, Georgia Tech, Oberlin College, St. George's University School of Medicine, University of California, Berkeley Extension's Post-Baccalaureate Health Professions Program, University of Central Florida College of Medicine and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.

James Slayton National Award for Leadership Excellence

The James Slayton National Award for Leadership Excellence is named in honor of an exemplary former AMSA National President and AMSA Foundation President. It recognizes AMSA members whose exemplary achievement in leadership and management foster the development of exceptionally inspiring physician leaders.

President’s Award

The first annual AMSA President’s Award honors a physician or health care professional with progressive vision, advocacy or humanism qualities or achievements. This year’s recipient is Eric Whitaker, M.D., M.P.H., associate dean and executive vice president at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Alumni Medal of Excellence

The Alumni Medal of Excellence is presented to Larry Brilliant, M.D., M.P.H, co-founder and chairman of Seva, an international, non-profit, health foundation. His work truly exemplifies AMSA’s mission and improves medical education and the future of health care around the world.

Women Leaders in Medicine Award

Reception: Friday, March 11, 2011, 6:00 – 7:00 pm, Ballroom Foyer

Everyone is welcome to join us for the fourth annual presentation of the Raising Our Voices: Women Leaders in Medicine Award. The reception will be a celebration for the inspiring women, along with light snacks and mingling. From among the scores of women nominated by AMSA members across the county, these women were chosen for their passion and commitment to social justice, advancing women and mentoring young leaders in medicine:
