AMSA's 60th Annual Convention

AMSA at 60!  Celebrating Passion, Professionalism, Pride

March 11-14, 2010
Disneyland Hotel * Anaheim, CA

An Invitation From AMSA’s National President

I am thrilled to have the opportunity to invite you to AMSA’s 60th Annual Convention, “AMSA at 60! Celebrating Passion, Professionalism, Pride” to be held at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, CA, March 11 – 14, 2009. We live in a time where physicians-in-training are needed as leaders to effect change in medical education and in the health care system we are all soon to inherit. In an era where the health of millions is threatened by poverty and lack of health insurance, inequity that distorts the composition and distribution of the physician workforce, and intricate industry-physician relationships that challenge the ethics of our profession, we have incredible opportunity. Despite the current state of medicine, there has never been a more rewarding time to enter the profession.

AMSA’s convention is your chance to network with peers and mentors from across the country who care about the very same issues as you—how to survive the rigors of medical training while learning about and advocating for social justice, affordable education, and health policy. Thursday’s opening ceremonies will kick off four days of one-of-a-kind workshops and educational sessions addressing a multitude of topics, including test preparation, global access to essential medicines, the principles of osteopathy, career roundtable discussions, and successful public health campaigns, among other topics. Friday marks the opening of the House of Delegates, where chapter delegates debate and decide AMSA’s policies and priorities. Convention will also feature four keynote speakers, interactive workshops, community service, a big birthday party, and an afternoon at Disneyland! Convention is also where we elect next year’s national membership and programming leaders—it’s never too early to think about how you want to be involved and make a difference in your professional association!

Sincerely,
Lauren Hughes, MD, MPH
