Symposium Descriptions

Women's Empowerment Symposium
The Women's Empowerment Symposium is a forum for female leaders wanting to advance their leadership skills and to feel empowered to seek out and achieve their career goals in medicine. Specially designed, the symposium will engage participants and inspire them to use their power to advocate for girls and women in the US and around the world. Participants will be challenged to step into their leadership roles and support women's health, rights and access, and participate in the creation of a society supportive of women's equality in the family unit, in the workplace, in academia, and within public policy. The symposium will focus on these issues through a variety of engaging and interactive discussions. Attendees will acquire the skills needed to create a professional environment conducive to the progress of female physicians and women everywhere. And of course, there will be numerous opportunities to engage with your fellow symposium attendees in a fun environment where you can share your plans of engagement.

Global Health Symposium
The Global Health Symposium will focus on current issues in global health access. As demographics shift in both the domestic and global arenas, physicians must be knowledgeable on how to optimize distribution of resources to match health resources with health need.

Participants will be exposed to critical issues in global health including patent pools, international health care delivery systems, funding access, and mobile health. In addition to presentations by experienced leaders from organizations including Child Health International and SPARC, attendees will participate in interactive panels and skills-based workshops on topics such as direct action and ethical exchanges. Participants will learn about different dimensions of health access, gain knowledge about solutions that are being put forth currently, and be challenged to think critically and apply methods towards increasing health access globally. And of course there will be numerous opportunities for conversation with fellow attendees and relationship-building for future global health activities!
