AMSA invites all members to submit their ideas for convention programming.
Don’t miss the opportunity to present your great ideas at AMSA Convention 2017!
To allow you to take advantage of this chance to shine, we have extended the abstract submission deadline to July 8th, 2016. Act fast!
Still wondering what it’s all about? Here are the details:
There are a limited number of time slots in the Convention schedule for your own presentations, workshops, talks, or panels. It may be a 15 minute information session, 50 minutes hands-on skill-building session, or anything in between. Share your clinical knowledge, skills, and practical information with the audience via case studies, Q&A, and more.
What should you do now? Check it out:
- Pick your topic*
- Submit your idea
- Ensure you have a great speaker (like yourself) to lead the session
- Prepare the presentation
*Programming generally includes topics such as advocacy, career development, professional skills development, issues in international health, professionalism, wellness, public health, and more. Some topics will be accepted for presentation to medical students, others for premedical students, and some for combined audiences.
Please note: If you are submitting a potential program for which you are not the speaker, please also make certain you have:
- Confirmed the speaker’s interest in participating.
- Confirmed the speaker’s availability for the dates of the convention.
- Explained to the speaker that this is a competitive process, and submission of an abstract does not guarantee the presentation will be accepted for the convention.
Programming will be reviewed and selected by a selection committee composed of AMSA’s national president, student office fellows, the executive director, The New Physician editor, and the convention staff.
Programs will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Relevance to AMSA’s strategic mission and aspirations (details can be found here: http://www.amsa.org/about/mission-aspirations/)
- Ability to expand attendees’ knowledge and skills beyond traditional curriculum
- Originality of presentation
- Broad distribution of program topics and sessions formats,
AMSA not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, gender, age, national/ethnic origin, marital status, sexual orientation or physical disability. All abstracts will be blinded and reviewed concurrently, evaluated consistently, and selected solely on the educational content of the programming.
SELECTION NOTIFICATION / SPEAKER INVITATIONS
AMSA will email all submitters by the end of July 2017, as to whether or not their program has been selected. The AMSA Convention schedule has a limited number of potential time slots. If your abstract is not selected for Convention, AMSA may extend an invitation to present at another conference, another conference, during a webinar, a podcast, or through another medium.
Once programming has been selected, the convention staff will send a formal invitation to the speaker. Speakers will be asked to enter into a speaker agreement with AMSA. Speakers who do not comply by given deadlines are subject to removal from the convention program. Speakers are asked to participate on a gratis basis. AMSA reserves the right to request or make last-minute changes to any program.
